Personal Shoot 10 - Chinese Mythology, Astrology & Culture

Plans for the shoot:
For this shoot I am going to take inspiration from a trip to China Town in London, and I am going to photography images which I feel reflect on the idea of astrology and mythology - looking at beliefs, the idea of magic and predicting the future - as well as some imagery which will reflect on the Chinese culture. The Chinese believe in the 12 zodiac symbols, which ties in with the theme of astrology, and somewhat mythology, so I plan to photograph an astrological wheel with some rocks and gemstones, taking close-up shots to capture the fine detail and colour of the different stones. I will also throw in some shots of some traditional Chinese lanterns to add to the theme of my shoot as I think the glowing colour will look stunning against a dark, night background.

Shoot Evaluation:
It took a while to get the camera right to take some macro shots of the stones, but what I did achieve is exactly what I wanted and the colours look really stunning against each other, which adds to the magical them of the shoot. With the shoot also, I took some shots of the sky as it was quite cloudy that night, which I may use for surrealist experiments.

Fantasy Shoot 9 - Armour Inspired Fashion

Plans for the shoot:
I have a friend and colleague who studies Fashion at University, and she needed someone who could photograph her final collection for her portfolio. I would have said yes anyway, but additionally her collection was inspired by 'Knights in shining armour' - a typical character seen within Fantasy fiction, but made for women as she wanted to represent females as strong, independent people, and I feel this will work well with my Fantasy theme. She has said I can use the photos for my coursework, and it will be my first time incorporating a designer, a makeup stylist and a hair stylist for one shoot. We have agreed to experiment on both black and white backgrounds, but we may also try out other colours too.

Shoot Evaluation:
Although the shoot was eventually quite lengthy, lasting over 3 hours long, I captured some really stunning images and I am really happy with the results. The silver and greys within the dresses looked stunning against the white background and the strong poses from the models also helped to portray the Knight/Strong Women image I was looking for. Including the models and the designer, we all worked together really well to come up with some new and interesting poses which really worked well in showing off all of the dresses. The intricate pleating in the dresses also made for nice close-up shots to highlight the textures and patterns.

These are some of the final edited pictures from the shoot. I really enjoyed experimenting with close-up details of the fabric/material because I loved the patterns they created, and I also spent some time experimenting with different tints and filters to give some of the images more of a metallic feel to it.
